A new, free, diagnostic tool for small businesses in NSW, called Design Thinking for Small Business, has been launched in response to recommendations from the NSW Creative Industries Action Plan.

NSW Minister for Small Business, Katrina Hodgkinson, said Small Biz Connect has developed this new, tailored for small businesses design thinking resource to help companies better identify innovative or creative design-led solutions and opportunities for business growth.

“It’s a fantastic tool for any small business owner or manager looking for smart and useful ways to review and assess their business practices and processes,” Hodgkinson said. “This new resource comes in the form of an easy-to-use online diagnostic tool which takes the user through a series of questions.

“In an increasingly competitive marketplace, the use of design to create better products and processes can add a significant boost to the bottom line and set small businesses apart from competitors in terms of product, service and brand.”

The online diagnostic tool will assist small business owners in the following areas:

• Reviewing their strategic plan;
• Understanding their customer base;
• Brand development;
• Product design;
• Product development; and
• Building skills and innovation.

Design Thinking for Small Business is initially tailored to manufacturing and designing small businesses, with Small Biz Connect currently developing a complementary service industry diagnostic tool. To book a meeting with a Small Biz Connect adviser to go through the diagnostic tool, or for further information, visit www.smallbusiness.nsw.gov.au.
