The National Roads & Motorists’ Association has selected six start-up businesses to take part in Jumpstart, the NRMA’s first accelerator program.

After a thorough submission and pitch process, six start-ups were offered places in the Jumpstart program. These six start-ups chosen for the Jumpstart program are:

  1. Careseekers: A national service that connects people needing in-home carers with people looking for carer work.
  2. WunderWalk: A personalised pocket tour guide. The app creates your ultimate outing, shopping, eating, drinking, entertainment and sightseeing anywhere in the world. Create walkable adventures featuring individual interests on a live route map.
  3. Gamurs: A gaming social network – think Facebook for gamers designed by five university students. Gamers connect with others and personalise their gaming experience. One account and one password is all gamers need to access every game currently on the internet. Gamurs already have more than 2000 members registered.
  4. Camplify: Camplify connects would-be campers with owners of caravans and RVs, Holiday Parks, camping grounds and camping related experiences. Their goal is to be the ‘airbnb’ of the camping world.
  5. OTTO by Gizmosis: Advanced voice recognition technology to reduce driver distraction. Makes and receives mobile phone calls and texts without touching the phone.
  6. Hive UAV: Hive UAV provides automated remote aerial monitoring using drones for agriculture, emergency services and industry.

“We are thrilled with the diversity of our Jumpstart participants and have selected teams from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane,” NRMA Group CEO Tony Stuart said. “Participants are of all ages with two of the businesses established by young women.

“Our successful start-ups have a very steep business education ahead of them. Each business group is given the opportunity to learn from the best. They will receive business advice, training and mentoring from recognised experts in the start-up world.”

Jumpstart is co-ordinated by Slingshot Accelerator and supported by external partners including Artesian Venture Partners, UTS Business School, the University of Newcastle, PwC, Mitchellake Group and Sparke Helmore Lawyers. Another round of the NRMAJumpstart is slated for later in 2015. For more on the NRMA’s Jumpstart, visit www.mynrma.com.au/jumpstart.
