Australia Post partnership to support SMEs' Trans-Tasman expansion

Australia Post has partnered with New Zealand Post in a new partnership aimed at making it easier for Australian SME businesses to expand across the Tasman into New Zealand.

Australia Post has partnered with New Zealand Post in a new partnership aimed at making it easier for Australian SME businesses to expand across the Tasman into New Zealand.

To help SME business owners reach new markets in New Zealand, the partnership provides help with customer acquisition, direct marketing, parcel delivery and managing returns. 

Australia Post’s Executive General Manager of Parcel & Express Services, Richard Umbers, said that with eCommerce booming it is now more feasible than ever for online businesses to make the leap across the Tasman.

“All the research is predicting double digit annual growth in online spending through to 2020,” Umbers said. “Capturing almost 80 per cent of all online spending, small businesses are the growth engine of eCommerce.

“In partnership with New Zealand Post, we can provide businesses access to our combined network, logistics capacity and market insights to give them the confidence to reach new markets. We can now offer 1.9 million prospective customers in New Zealand the direct marketing and fulfillment support needed to turn leads into sales.”

The partnership between Australia Post and New Zealand Post will enable businesses to:

  • Acquire new customers through market insights and customer data, including targeted sales leads by customer profile and location.
  • Reach buyers in New Zealand through direct marketing and fulfillment capabilities, including database management, print production and multi-channel delivery across physical and digital platforms.
  • Deliver to New Zealand through competitive international parcel delivery.

Thanks to the partnership, businesses can send items up to 2kg for a flat rate of $15 to anywhere in New Zealand through Australia Post Express Courier International. This includes courier pick-up, free packaging, tracking with signature and optional extra cover.

“This is a great opportunity for Australian online businesses to test the global market by starting in New Zealand,” New Zealand Post’s General Manager Business Development & Strategy, Sohail Choudhry added. “The size, demographics and popularity of online shopping in New Zealand make it an ideal test market for international expansion.”
