My Business: What are your most effective work habits?
Bob andersen: One that I struggled with for a long time within my business was delegation. Once I found staff with the right work ethic and learned to delegate I finally found the time to work on my business instead of working in it. What a difference that makes!
My Business: What’s the best business decision you’ve ever made?
Bob andersen: In regards to the education component of my business it had to be when I decided to move my marketing from offline to online. Combining education and the internet has been a huge success.
My Business: What is your best tip for managing people?
Bob andersen: I struggle with it a bit but I had a drink with Donald Trump when he was in Sydney last September with Robert Kiyosaki and I asked him a similar question. He said “Hire the very best people you can find but don’t trust any of them” – then the subject quickly changed to something about pre-nup agreements.
My Business: Who do you most admire? Why?
Bob Andersen: Strangely, a man who only ever bought one property in his life, never bought a share and had no superannuation. But he instilled in me a strong work ethic by his own example and the incontestable value of integrity. His name was Bob Andersen (senior).
My Business: I drive a …
Bob Andersen: … ute during the week because when I go on site to inspect my developments I get respect and favours from the builder and subbies from being ‘one of the boys’. If I arrived in the black AMG their attitude would be quite different. Mind you it is a nice ute that pumps out around 400 KW.
My Business: How do you relax?
Bob Andersen: I love fishing or just cruising. There’s something relaxing about the water and leaving everything behind on the land. My boat is called “Site’ so that if someone is trying to contact me at the office the truthful reply is “Sorry, Bob’s out on site today and uncontactable”.
My Business: If someone gave you $100,000 and said “Invest this in your business by the end of the week – or lose it” what would you do?
Bob Andersen: Ask them to find another $50K so they could become an investor in one of our property development syndicates and make $80,000 to $100,000 profit from their pre-allocated townhouse or unit.
