Meet coffee guru, Lachlan Ward, group retail manager of ST. ALi Group, Melbourne’s front-running specialty coffee conglomerate, which includes Sensory Lab and Clement.

In a coffee industry worth an estimated $4.3 billion according to IBISWorld Research 2014, St Ali Group takes a piece of the pie with a portfolio spanning five cafes, coffee and gift stores across two states. As well as retail outlets, their wholesale coffee business supplies coffee beans nationally and even runs barista training courses.

Keeping busy onboard the coffee culture bandwagon, Lachlan manages to stay up to date with the business while managing and travelling between multiple locations with the free Square Register point-of-sale app used across ST. ALi’s stores.

“Because I’m usually busy travelling between the group’s cafes, I need to be able to access real-time sales reports on the go. I do this by using Square’s Dashboard app which gives me a piece of mind that everything’s running soundly when I’m away.”

“One of the things I love most is that all the information I need is in one place. The hourly breakdown and spend and hour-by-hour comparisons are my ‘go-to’, straight away.”

Lachlan continues, “I enjoy the opportunities a larger business brings and depending upon the location, trade varies at different times of the day, so keeping a close eye on sales across the business is really important for planning. Managing multiple stores doesn’t need to be chaotic. Take a step back and see the bigger picture with the the help of technology.”
