OPTUS was today announced as the new principal partner of Australia's premier independent SME awards, My Business Awards, as the event celebrates its 15th fifteenth year recognising the achievements of small and medium businesses across Australia.

It will join a sponsorship team that includes the likes of Qantas, CGU, AGL, MasterCard, Visa and Efic, and was selected for the top honour because of its important role assisting SMEs stay connected with customers, suppliers, and other crucial groups.

"OPTUS provides a critical service to Australian SMEs by delivering connectivity in an online world that is increasingly reliant on fast and efficient telecommunications," said Jamie-Lee Golden, Head of Sales & Partnership at My Business Magazine.

"When considering who we might partner with, the brand and values alignment between Optus and My Business magazine was immediately apparent due to the important role Optus performs in keeping Australian SMEs connected."

Rob Parcell, Managing Director of Wholesale, Satellite and SMB at Optus, said Optus is proud to support Australia's premier SME awards program as it enters its fifteenth year.

"Optus knows small business is the backbone of the economy and this partnership will allow us to formally honour Australia's most passionate and dedicated entrepreneurs, the exceptional work they are doing and the contribution they make to the Australian community," Mr Parcell said.

Australian small and medium enterprises account for roughly 70 per cent of the nation's entire workforce.

My Business Magazine, the host of the awards, has published news, advice and information for SMEs for the past 25 years.

"It's not easy to operate a business – whether that business is comprised of two, twenty or 200 employees," continued Jamie-Lee Golden.

"This is why we're so passionate about recognising and encouraging the hard work of those business owners who play such a crucial role in the economic wellbeing of Australia."

The 2015 Optus My Business Awards will be held on Friday 13 November 2015 at Doltone House Hyde Park, Sydney.

Ten awards will be presented on the night, including Small Business of the Year, Medium Business of the Year, Game Changer of the Year, and the coveted Outstanding Excellence Award.

Previous My Business Award winners who have gone on to become iconic brands and household names include Boost Juice, H2Coco, ModelCo, Jimmy Possum, Red Balloon Days, Sumo Salad, Fruit At Work, Laservision, Sign-A-Rama and Roses Only.
