South Australian lockdown

South Australia has been placed into strict lockdown for as a ‘circuit breaker’ to prevent a second wave of coronavirus. The 'stay at home' direction began at 12.01am on Thursday 19 November and is expected to end by 12:01am on Sunday 22 November. 

What businesses can remain open?

The following businesses and services can continue to operate:

  • supermarkets, butchers, fruit and vegetable stores and fishmongers (but not an indoor or outdoor market)
  • bottle shops, pharmacies and hardwares
  • a financial institution
  • consular and diplomatic services
  • post offices
  • petrol stations
  • vehicle and mechanical repair services
  • distribution centres
  • pet stores and veterinary clinics
  • childcare and schools for families of essential workers.

Shops may open and close at any time for the purposes of essential goods or services. 

Who is an essential worker?

Essential workers are permitted to leave home to work. They perform work which is essential for the continued operation of particular businesses and services, including emergency and health services, and those listed above.
