According to a survey of more than 10,000 employees across five cities, Adelaidians are on average the least punctual in the workplace.
Conducted by employee management solution Deputy, the survey examined over 400,000 shifts from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth in the retail, construction, hospitality and healthcare sectors.
Adelaide was identified as the worst city, with 41 per cent of its workforce late to their shifts.
On the other end of the scale, the city to arrive earliest to work was Brisbane, with 69 per cent of employees arriving before their shift started.
In the middle were employees from Perth, which had 62 per cent of its workforce arriving early, followed by Sydney and Melbourne, tied with 60 per cent.
Women were found to be the more punctual gender, with 62 per cent arriving early, compared with 57 per cent of men.
The age groups of employees arriving early and late were also analysed.
It was found that 80 per cent of Baby Boomers are likely to arrive to work early – more than any other age group.
Behind them are Generation Z at 64 per cent, with Generations X and Y trailing at 61 per cent.
“Companies should put more effort into developing the talents of Gen Z,” said Kristin Harris, general manager of Deputy.
“They’ve grown up as digital natives and are often passionate about innovation, yet they’ve largely been stereotyped as uninterested and easily distracted.
“Being more reliable than Gen X and Y shows they’re more motivated and could point to a potential shift in leadership growth for the future of our workplaces.”
