Jamie White, My Business columnist and one of Australia’s most entrepreneurial lawyers, has been recognised for bringing exciting new innovation to the legal industry with his forward thinking law practice, Pod Legal.
White, who specialises in Intellectual Property, Technology and Social Media law, is a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia, a Registered Trade Marks Attorney, and an Adjuncy Teaching Fellow at Bond University on the Gold Coast. White also gained widespread media coverage a few years ago when he won this case by successfully arguing that the “f word” is a normal part of Australian speech and so cannot be deemed offensive under trademark rules.
Pod Legal, a small business run by Jamie and his wife Karan and with offices in Brisbane and Melbourne, was last week one of 10 firms placed on the inaugural Legal Innovation Index in recognition of ‘Innovative branding, communication and expertise promotion’.
Each of the 10 firms listed on the Legal Innovation Index were required to demonstrate that they are driving innovation across knowledge sharing, cost and time management, client service delivery and employee engagement, amongst other criteria.
“To be recognised for our innovative branding, communication and expertise promotion and to be rewarded with a place on the Index, we are just delighted,” White said. “Being the only small firm to be named on the Index just makes it all the more rewarding.
“It’s great to be among such prestigious company, but the fact that we are on the Index with the big hitters shows that the legal industry is starting to recognise the vital role that innovation plays and the new breed of firm that is coming through.”
Pod Legal’s branding awareness campaigns in mainstream and social media have seen the firm win a high profile, regularly featuring in media outlets such as news.com.au, My Business magazine, Lawyers Weekly, Sydney Morning Herald and building a strong presence via social media channels.
“We do what large firms are challenged to do, and that is to use innovation to react quickly to the changing business landscape, adopt emerging technologies early and reach clients and potential clients where they ‘live’ in social media, as well as via traditional means,” Karan White, Pod Legal’s Business Director who recently returned from a study tour of the Silicon Valley, said.
“We put a considerable effort into creating content, as every law firm does, but the difference is we have become adept at making that content accessible, informative and understandable to the lay person.”
"My Business congratulates Jamie, Karen and Pod Legal for this due recognition," added My Business Editor Justin Grey. "When one thinks of the legal industry, progressive, innovative thinking isn't necessarily the first thought that comes to mind, but Pod Legal demonstrates that even in time-old industries there is scope for forward thinking for those who think outside the box."
