Released to coincide with World Health Day, a new employee engagement survey has suggested a large number of employees are looking to their company for nutritional advice.
Sydney-based work-life balance consultancy SeventeenHundred recently conducted a survey of workers using its information portal, and were surprised to discover that almost a third (32 per cent) said they were mostly interested in healthy meal recipes.
“Having the time to fit in work with exercise and have a quick nutritious meal is a real challenge,” one survey respondent said.
“I used to love cooking, but just don’t have the time any longer.”
According to SeventeenHundred director Fiona Hitchiner, workers are hungry for advice on supporting their health and wellbeing in ways that do not impede on their busy schedules, and employers are well placed to be the source of this information.
“There is a great potential for employers to provide information on healthy eating plans and preparing wholesome meals, especially for employees on a time budget,” Ms Hitchiner said.
“[Our survey reveals] the real desire, yet simple demand for employers to offer the guidance and support in meeting basic lifestyle goals and attaining work-life balance for employees. It takes just a few small steps daily to help maintain a healthy way of life.”
According to Ms Hitchiner, the top five work-life challenges of employees are time management, exercise, work, cooking/diet and sleep.
She said that while progressive businesses have looked to address many of these elements for the benefit of their staff and in turn their productivity – such as workplace flexibility, childcare and exercise programs – many business leaders may not even be aware of the desire many employees have for nutritional advice and expertise.
