As the festive season approaches its climax, it’s time to reflect on the year that was and appreciate everything for which we are truly grateful.
What a year it’s been! (Be sure to keep an eye out for our full year in review). But now, thankfully, we have some time to take a much-needed breather, recharge the batteries and prepare for the imminent arrival of 2018.
My Business itself is part of an SME, and most of our team have first-hand exposure to life within a small business – either as operators ourselves, or as the proud partners or relatives of those who do. And so we can empathise with the level of hard work, the feelings of isolation, the stress of chasing outstanding invoices and the joys of watching one’s own creation grow and flourish.
The latter, however, is often the most overlooked in the world of business: the many successes, no matter how small, that combine to create a growing enterprise of which we can be proud.
We have been privileged to speak with so many incredible business owners who do amazing things on a daily basis. Whether they are at the cutting edge of science and technology, overcoming astronomical odds to bring concepts to market or going above and beyond to make a positive difference to their customers, it is truly humbling to hear of these things first-hand and share in their wisdoms, experiences and insights, something of which I am truly grateful to be a part of.
These holidays, while settling down with your loved ones and enjoying some well-deserved R and R, I encourage you to take a moment to appreciate your own efforts, to pat yourself on the back for your achievements and to recognise the valuable contribution that you play not just in the lives of your own family, but those of your employees, your customers and the wider community you serve.
Our communities, and indeed our country, would be nothing without the hard work and dedication of people like you – the owners and operators of our more than 2 million SMEs.
As we head into the New Year, may your business continue to go from strength to strength, and may you also continue to live the passion which took you into business in the first place.
And with that, on behalf of the whole My Business team, I would like to wish you a very happy and safe Christmas, and every good wish for 2018.
