Rachael Bermingham’s “4 ingredients” cookbook and has been a worldwide success, as have some of her other titles.
Ahead of Rachael’s tour of Australia, “RB Live: “How To Write A Book & Make It A Bestseller” in Sydney on May 14th May and Melbourne on May 28th, My Business asked her to share her insights into what makes a successful business.
Q: What’s the one thing you wish you’d known before you started in business?
A: To ask questions! The more questions I can ask the more I learn. I had to get over the fear of looking silly by asking what some might say was a 'silly' question. If you don't ask you don't know.
Q: What are your most effective work habits?
A: Definitely being scheduled, it helps me to remain focused and not over commit myself.
Q: Best business decision you’ve ever made?
A: Working from home. I love the flexibility and being able to work around my family commitments.
Q: Favourite piece of business technology? Why?
A: My iPhone - it has everything I need at my fingertips - my schedule, contacts, emails, internet - I can easily access anything 24 hours a day while cuddling a baby or two!
Q: Best tip for managing people?
Treat them like they matter - because they do!
Q: What do you drive and why?
I drive a BMW X5 because it fits everyone in!
Q: What’s your favourite networking activity? Why?
A: I LOVE speaking at events, you meet a diverse range of people who each have fabulous stories to share - always inspiring, uplifting and I ALWAYS come away with even more opportunities of some shape or form.
Q: How do you relax?
A: I don't honestly do much of that with 3 little boys as it's pretty full on, but when I do want to chillax I go out to dinner with friends or read a book.
Q: If someone gave you $100,000 and said “Invest this in your business by the end of the week – or lose it” what would you do?
A: I'd use it as a scholarship for budding writers so that they could self-publish their books and achieve their dreams of becoming an author.
Q: The Internet is a massively disruptive force. What’s your reaction to disruption?
A: Disruptive??? I LOVE the internet! I'd be lost without it!
