HSC CoWorks on conquering with core values

Jesse Gardiner is the managing director of HSC CoWorks, a tutoring and coaching business who has shifted their face-to-face model entirely online in the wake of COVID-19. When asked how about the transition, he credits the ease to his employees, the coaches.

"I'm lucky enough to have a team that are very well versed in change and uncertainty as we are continually working towards improving the delivery," said Jesse.

"We've got about 65 coaches that are in the age range of 18 to 21. Their ability to utilise, technology has been I think, second to none. I'm extremely proud of their ability to do that."

The team at HSC CoWorks put their success down to their core values and workplace culture.

"One of the reasons that our coaches love working at CoWorks is because they get to collaborate and work with other people, who are like-minded and ambitious and that aspect of their culture has been maintained somewhat," said Jesse.

"I do get goosebumps when I think about how amazing my team are and I know that there's a lot of high-quality performance out there across the country, but they have really stepped up to the plate. And what I'm especially proud of is their willingness to bring forward business improvement ideas to the table.

"They're on the front lines and I'm constantly getting that feedback from them so that they understand what our mission is here and they will continually come back with ideas. We're now using the technology in this way and I hadn't even thought of that."

When we asked Jesse whether he was happy with HSC COWorks approach to COVID-19, he was quick to say 'yes'.

"Yes, is the answer. And it is a double-edged sword, you move too quickly and you're going to upset a few customers and move too slowly and potentially risk damaging many aspects of the business reputationally, and so on.

"I'm proud of our ability to move quickly and operate with leadership in this space. I feel that because we can deliver a service, equally and we put forward the argument that in some aspects it's better.

"Well, we're going to stand for what we believe to be the best option. But if we operate to try and make everybody happy, inevitably we're going to make some people unhappy."
