Hills, the long-serving Aussie company that invented the iconic Hills Hoist, has been voted the nation’s most trusted iconic brand for the second year in a row in Reader’s Digest’s 2014 Trusted Brands Survey.
After nearly 70 years in business, Hills continues to be one of Australia’s most enduring and innovative companies. The company estimates there are more than 7.5 million Hills Hoist in Australian backyards today, while the Hoist has also been installed in over 20 countries worldwide including the US, Japan and India.
Hills CEO Ted Pretty said he the company was delighted with the recognition from the Reader’s Digest’s 2014 Trusted Brands Survey
“This result encourages us in our transformation into a provider of next generation technology solutions in security and surveillance, health and aged care, and smart homes,” Pretty said. “We continue to draw on the vision and ingenuity that led to the hoist becoming one of Australia’s great inventions in our search for technology solutions that make life easier and doing business simpler.”
While Hills is famous for the Hoist, the company estimates nearly every Australian home is using its other products, which include security cameras and alarm panels, analogue and digital antennas, and health and well-being products like MyLively.
“Australians can expect the same high standards of quality and reliability they traditionally associate with the Hills brand in the security, patient care, communications and audio-visual solutions we’re delivering into schools, hospitals, businesses and governments.”
As part of its ongoing commitment to growing innovation locally, Hills has opened the Lance Hills Design Centre and D-Shop R&D facility in partnership with the South Australian Government and UniSA, Flinders and Adelaide University. The Centre is already making great strides in developing new nurse call and monitoring equipment for arthritis sufferers and is supporting the development of gaming technology for children with cerebral palsy.
The annual Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Survey has been operating for 14 years as an independent survey of the Australian public. This year, 46 categories were featured and more than 2,400 people were surveyed.
