SMEs are intending to increase their investments into technology in 2015, according to a recent study by global recruitment company Robert Half. And almost two-thirds of the CIOs polled in this study identify new projects as the top driver of technology recruitment this year. The findings, released in the company’s2015 Robert Half Salary Guide, showed IT plays a critical role in an organisation’s growth. These results were developed by Robert Half in conjunction with an independent research organisation, which surveyed 100 Australian CIOs in December 2014. Says Robert Half director, Andrew Brushfield, “SMEs are nimble and flexible, and can adapt more readily to the economy. Technology is no longer perceived as a cost centre, but rather a vehicle to improve productivity and drive revenue gains.” Read more here.

A new study by Australia’s biggest credit card comparison website creditcardfinder.com.au has revealed 1.2 million Australians have a secret credit card or hide purchases from their partner. The survey of 1,200 credit card holders from across Australia found that 15 per cent admitted to owning a credit card or making purchases that their partner doesn’t know about. That’s approximately 1.2 million cardholders. One in 10 cardholders – or an estimated 800,000 Australians – said their credit card spending has led to an argument with their partner. And it turns out that the better looking gender – female, that is – is the worst offender here. The survey found that female cardholders are worse than their male counterparts, with 17 per cent of women admitting to hiding credit card spending, compared to 14 per cent of men. Australia’s most ambitious equity crowdfunding investment drive has begun, with mobile payments and taxi booking platform Ingogo announcing plans to raise between $3 million and $4m through equity crowdfunding. The raise is to be conducted through VentureCrowd, which already raised $1.2m for Ingogo late last year as part of a broader $9.3m funding round. VentureCrowd said the raise, to close in May, will be the largest ever equity crowdfunding round to date in Australia. Ingogo, which is taking on the likes of Cabcharge, will use the funding to fuel continued aggressive growth among Australian taxi networks, consumers and in new verticals. Read more here.
