In a surprise move after the Easter long weekend, the federal government announced that the 457 visa for foreign temporary workers is to be abolished.
Replacing 457s will be two new foreign worker visas – the Short-Term and Medium-Term Temporary Skill Shortage Visa – with stricter conditions and a range of caveats on their availability.
