Rush Café and Numurkah Newsagency

Andrea Holmes owns Rush Café and Numurkah Newsagency in regional Victoria. After finding out about the Small Business Energy Saver Program, she upgraded her hot water heating units to energy-efficient heat pumps for just $300, saving her business $2,745.

Her old hot water unit in the newsagency was small and often leaked. By upgrading her unit, she is no longer losing water (and money) and now has a reliable supply.  The speed and ease of replacing her hot water pump meant there was no interruption to either business. The new hot water unit in the café is larger and enables her staff to wash dishes, prepare food and clean the café at the end of the day with a dependable supply of hot water.

St Peter’s Café Morwell

Jolanda Harvey, the owner of St Peter’s Café in Morwell was thrilled when she was contacted about the  Small Business Energy Saver Program. Her business had needed a new upright freezer, but getting the funds together was challenging.

Through the significant discounts this program offers for energy-efficient equipment upgrades, Jolanda was able to purchase a $3,800 Bromic upright freezer for only $800. While Jolanda hasn’t received an energy bill since the freezer was installed, it is estimated that she will save between 15 and 20% off the cost to run the freezer. She’s already noticed there’s more space in the kitchen and the clear glass doors also make it easy to see at a glance what’s in the fridge.

Jolanda’s advice to small businesses in Victoria: “Take up the opportunity while you can. If you can receive support for your business in this way, why not take advantage of the program? The guys are very easy to deal with and are very helpful with explaining which types of equipment you can upgrade. They can also help you estimate what you’ll save on energy bills and the reduction in emissions.

The last word goes to Jolanda, “I appreciated Chris approaching me and offering me the chance to be involved in this initiative. Thanks to the Victorian Government and Sustainability Victoria for the opportunity to save money and for their willingness to invest back into the community. I’m so very grateful.”
