Under Occupational/Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws, an Officer is required to undertake due diligence to ensure the organisation is complying with its work health and safety obligations.

Officers will need to take all reasonable steps to ensure that they are educated about the new laws, consult with employees, comply with any notices issued and ensure training is provided to workers about work health and safety. What amounts to “reasonable” will depend on the particular circumstances.

WHS Responsibilities for Officers document provides an outline to assist who is classified as an “Officer” for the purposes of the laws as well as the steps Officers can take to assist in complying with those laws.
